Intro to Saori freestyle weaving - one day

Introduction to freestyle weaving:
Come and learn contemporary, free-style hand weaving at the weavers’ workroom; a way to express your individuality through textile in your choice of yarns, colours and textures.

No experience needed:
Simple floor looms are fully set up with black cotton warp ready to go, so that you can start weaving immediately.

One-day workshop:
• Create your own cloth, or wall hanging.
• Learn to weave at your own pace.
• Learn hand-manipulated techniques.
• Learn how to blend/combine yarn colours and textures.
• Learn how to create shapes and patterns.
• All equipment is supplied.
• Included in workshop fee is 50g of materials which is approximately 1m of black cotton warp (150 thread/ 30cm width on loom), and weft yarn. Additional yarn and weft can be purchased during the class.
• You will be able to finish weaving approximately one meter of cloth during the one-day workshop class time. If you would like to weave a larger project such as a scarf, you can book in additional studio time to complete your project.

Note: You are welcome to bring your own yarn as you may already knit/crochet/spin and have a small amounts of yarn you want to use up. Any combination of fibre contents, thicknesses and twists are ok.
Weaving uses up less yarn than knitting so a full size scarf can weigh somewhere between 100g to 250g depending on the type of yarn used.

Small class size:
There is a maximum of 2 people per class.

Materials:
Warp: Black cotton $5.50 per linear metre (150 thread/ 30cm width on loom)
Weft: I have a limited selection for you to choose from, charged at 20c per gram.

Time:
10am to 3:00pm with a half-hour break for lunch.
Tea is provided but bring your own lunch.

Location:
The Weavers’ Workroom is located in Carlton, Melbourne and is easily accessible by car or public transport.
The exact address will be provided via email prior to the class.

Cost:
$220 per person

Terms and conditions:
The weavers’ workroom reserves the right to move the start/end time on the date of the listed class at any time. Class participants will be notified of any changes via email.
There will be no refunds for non-attendance.
You can transfer you place to another person but 24 hours notice is required if you are sending someone else in your place.

NOTE: There is a resident CAT in the studio.
