Introduction to weft Kasuri' or more commonly known as weft ikat.

Learn how to measure out weft yarn to design and locate patterns in your weaving.
Learn how to make your own resist-dyed weft yarn.
Experiment with your own resist-dyed weft yarn to create simple patterns.

This workshop runs over three days and is suitable for experienced weaver who can put a warp onto their own loom.
It runs from 10am to 3:00pm including half hour lunch break.

This is a brief outline of the workshop:
Day 1: Measuring and binding resist for weft yarn.
Day 2: continuation of binding resist for weft yarn in the morning and dyeing of weft yarn (procion dye; cold water dyeing for cellulose fibre) after lunch
Day 3: Weaving samples

Materials and equipment for binding will be supplied for use during workshop
A 1.5 meter long warp with warping details will be supplied and posted to you one week prior to the start of the workshop.
Weft yarn will be supplied during workshop.
Warp and weft are both in 10/2 pearl cotton.

What to bring:
You will need to bring your own table loom on the first and last day of the workshop. The sample is woven in plain weave so 2 shafts will be sufficient.
Note: if you don't have a table loom, one can be provide for use during class time, pre-warped for an additional cost. There are only 2 spaces available for this option. Please email me prior to purchasing workshop if you require this option.
Apron, gloves and eye protection for dyeing.
Boat or stick shuttles for weaving.

In order to make the most of workshop time, I will wind the warp and post it to you a week prior to the workshop so that you will have time to dress the loom. This is important as the first task will be to measure the weft required.

With the workshop, you will be provided with notes and take home a sample of weft Kasuri, similar to the attached images.
Cost: $360 for 3 days including materials.

Minimum number for workshop to proceed is 2 people.
Maximum per workshop is 4 people.

I have listed 3 days in a row over a weekend.
If you prefer other days or time, please do not hesitate to ask and I will try to accommodate.
